It's surprisingly easy to end up with a wanted status in Palworld. An accidental attack or wandering into a restricted area is sometimes all it takes for the PIDF to start chasing you. Fortunately, there are a few ways to remove your wanted status in Palworld, and some are more effective than others.
What Is the Wanted Status in Palworld?
The wanted system in Palworld is the game's built-in law enforcement meter. When you break the rules on the Palpagos Islands, the PIDF (Palpagos Island Defense Force) gets alerted and starts hunting you down. Think of it like the wanted stars in GTA — the bigger the offense, the harder they come after you.

What makes it annoying is that PIDF troops don't just chase you from where they already were. They actively spawn nearby while you're flagged, reportedly within around 100 feet of your position, and attack on sight. There's no breathing room unless you know what to do.
What Triggers the Wanted Status?
Most players get their first wanted flag completely by accident, and that's part of the experience. The three main causes are attacking or killing a neutral NPC, hitting a non-hostile Pal, trespassing inside a restricted zone like a Wildlife Sanctuary, or trying to capture a human using a Pal Sphere.

The stray shot is probably the most common one. During a chaotic fight, it's easy to accidentally clip a neutral Pal nearby, and that's enough to set off the alarm. Wildlife Sanctuaries also show a brief warning before flagging you, so if you see that notification, back off fast or you're about to have a very bad time.
How to Remove Wanted Status in Palworld
There are multiple ways to clear the wanted status, and the best option depends on what you have available and how your character is set up. Here's every method that actually works:
1. Fly Straight Up Into the Air
This is one of the most consistent tricks that works really well. If you have a flying Pal, mount up and go directly upward as high as you can. The PIDF have a spawn radius tied to your position. So once you fly above it, they literally cannot spawn anymore.

After getting out of their range, a timer begins. The wanted status clears in roughly a minute to a minute and a half. The key is to stay still while in the air so you're not draining stamina.
2. Break Line of Sight and Hide
This is what most of the community believes is the intended method the developers actually designed. The idea is to use terrain, buildings, or elevation to break the PIDF's line of sight, then stay hidden long enough for the wanted status to time out on its own.
The problem is that PIDF troops currently spawn aggressively close to you while wanted, so this method is a bit harder than it probably should be. If you're trying it, don't run in a straight line. Change directions, put solid cover between you and them, crouch down, and wait it out.
3. Die and Respawn
One of the simplest ways to get rid of a wanted status is to let yourself get knocked out by the PIDF. After respawning, you'll no longer be wanted.
4. Exit to Menu and Reload
If dying isn't your thing, a clean reload works just as well. Quit out to the main menu, then load back into the game. The wanted status doesn't carry over on reload.

However, if you're still inside a restricted area like a Wildlife Sanctuary when you reload, you'll trigger the wanted status again the moment the game loads. Leave the zone before logging out to avoid that loop.
5. Fast Travel to Your Base
Fast travel to your base and let your stationed Pals defend against the PIDF troops that follow. After a couple of minutes of them dealing with the fight, fast travel to a second base to fully break the chase. It's slower, and it depends on how strong your base Pals are, but it keeps you from losing items.

6. Fight the PIDF Head-On
If you have strong gear and well-leveled Pals, fighting the PIDF is another option. However, it's not always the most practical approach, as additional PIDF units may continue to appear at higher wanted levels. Still, if you're confident in your equipment and team, you can try fighting them until the wanted status is cleared.

How to Avoid Getting Wanted in Palworld
Once you know how to clear it, the smarter move is just not triggering it in the first place. Aim carefully when there are neutral NPCs or non-hostile Pals nearby, especially during chaotic multi-target fights.
Pay attention to area warnings when entering new zones. Wildlife Sanctuaries show a pop-up before flagging you, so there's no reason to miss it. If you're testing aggressive Pals or experimenting with weapons, do that somewhere remote and away from towns.

If you're prone to accidentally one-shotting things, equipping a Ring of Mercy is a smart move. It prevents unintended kills and saves you a lot of unnecessary wanted status clean-up.
That's all you need to know about how to remove Wanted Status or level in Palworld. Be careful next time!
